Mobile phone covers, also known as mobile phone cases, are items that we use and touch frequently every day, and children will also play and even bite in the mouth. Surveys show that ninety percent of users use plastic protective covers, and plastic products may contain a large number of toxic and harmful chemicals.
Recently, the Shenzhen Municipal Consumer Commission, together with the Futian District Consumer Council and other units, commissioned the Shenzhen Quality Consumption Research Institute to conduct a test on plastic mobile phone cases, and jointly compared 30 mobile phone cases of 28 brands that sold online and offline.
The test combines the actual use scenarios of consumers, and refers to the EU’s REACH regulation, persistent organic pollutants directive (POPs) and other relevant standards to test the chemical safety issues that consumers are concerned about. In addition, given that consumers often encounter the problem of yellowing and discoloration in the process of using mobile phone cases. Therefore, this comparative test also uses the ISO 4892-3 standard to test the aging test of the sample to check whether the sample is prone to yellowing and discoloration.
Apple, Xiaomi mobile phone cases on the “black list” “rhinestone glitter” lead exceeded the standard by 1550 times
The test results found that the quality of 23 mobile phone cases exceeded international first-class standards, and no toxic and harmful chemicals were detected in 201 chemical tests, accounting for nearly eighty percent. However, 5 mobile phone cases were detected with toxic and harmful substances, and the content of toxic and harmful substances detected exceeded the requirements of the standard limits, including some large brands, such as Apple and Xiaomi. The toxic and harmful substances exceeding the limit value are mainly concentrated in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, plasticizers, and lead content.
