The 52-square-meter “old and dilapidated” family of six in Beijing is located on the edge of the Drum Tower, and after living here for more than a decade, they have finally wanted to renovate this old and unbearable little house.
In a space of 52 square meters, a livable home for six people was designed
, so this renovation directly turned the 2-bedroom into a 3-bedroom house, and focused on the design of storage functions.
In this renovation, the homeowner put forward 3 core requirements.
First, they wanted all six (grandparents, couple, two children) to have a place to rest and sleep.
Secondly, it is best to improve the crowding and forced feeling of the original small apartment, and redesign the sense of space and space utilization of the room.
Grandparents proposed that there should be a space where you can watch TV and rest, not too big, to meet the above needs.
In response to the above series of problems, the small home began to be transformed, but before that, let’s take a look at the home before the renovation.
Old and dilapidated before the renovation
The house before the renovation can be said to be a classic old and dilapidated small house.
First of all, the overall area of the room is small, only 52㎡, and the space allocated to each area is even smaller, especially the kitchen, after installing the cabinets, the operating space is somewhat stretched.
As soon as you enter the bathroom, it is also very “old”, not much to say if it is dirty and old, even the joints of the sewers that were previously remodeled have long been occupied by mold and dirt, and they are dirty and ugly.
Needless to say, the two bedrooms are small, poor lighting, dirty and black walls, and the balcony windows connected to them are poorly sealed and sound insulated, and the above series of problems are all places that need to be solved by subsequent transformation.
Comfortable home after renovation
After months of renovation, the little house has really changed dramatically.
First of all, the bathroom that enters the door replaces the swing door with a folding door, making the use of space more reasonable and increasing the available space in the bathroom.
However, unfortunately, the bathroom is both a secret guard, and there is no way to separate dry and wet, which may also be the helplessness of small apartments.
For the space of the bathroom, the sink has been moved outside, close to the kitchen area, just to make use of the redundant space in the corner, it is convenient to wash hands on weekdays, wash before going to work and school, and the place is also spacious.
After the kitchen renovation, the original lightweight wall was torn down, and the interior was made into a U-shaped cabinet layout design, so that the husband can also help his wife when cooking.
Moreover, the problem of insufficient storage space is also made up for by the hanging cabinet at the top, which can be described as taking into account both beauty and practicality.
Oh yes, the washing machine is also embedded in the kitchen cabinet, and the refrigerator is placed next to the cabinet, which looks harmonious and easy to use.
The 19㎡ large bedroom is divided into two rooms
The original master bedroom actually had an area of 19 square meters, but after the renovation, it was split into two.
▲The original large bedroom type
The new partition creates a corridor area, the outside space is embedded with shoe cabinets and wardrobes, adding indoor storage area, and the small room inside is the bedroom of the eldest son, who is only in the first grade.
Although the space inside is small, it also has a wardrobe, study table and bed to meet the needs of daily life.
The most detailed design for me was to use a window to separate the cottage from the couple’s room inside, which can create a separate living space for my son without affecting lighting and ventilation.
Strictly speaking, the master bedroom of the couple is now only 8 square meters, and a double bed and a large wardrobe occupy almost all the space, but fortunately, there is also an open balcony space, which increases the sense of space in the bedroom.
The counterweight wall of the balcony is made into a bar-style desk, and a power socket is added next to it, which can realize office, reading and leisure functions; In order to increase the storage space in the home, a large wardrobe with a roof is also made on the side of the balcony.
Re-separated second bedroom space
The second bedroom is the same as the master bedroom, but also re-separated.
The second bedroom after the separation is divided into a small dining and living room space, which meets the needs of grandparents to watch TV and rest, and also adds a small dining and chatting leisure area for the family.
Although it is squeezed some, through the pull-out dining table design, a family of six can be seated when the child is still young; The original closet space has been changed into a sideboard, which can store some dishes and bottles, or small kitchen appliances.
Seeing this, some friends may ask, how do grandparents watch TV? In fact, it is very simple, on the opposite side of the sofa, an electric lifting curtain replaces the function of the TV wall, bringing an excellent viewing experience.
The last area of the home is a small second bedroom converted into a second bedroom, and this house also fulfills the promise of changing 2 bedrooms into 3 bedrooms in the family.
The cottage adopts the design of upper bunk beds, the lower bunk is a double bed, now grandma and the youngest son of the second child are living, the upper bunk is a narrow single bed, is the grandfather’s rest space, a family of six has their own small space, this design is also amazing!
All in all, under such a limited area condition, the original 2 rooms were changed to 3 rooms, and it also met the needs of a variety of life functions, and I personally feel that the design is still very successful, what do you think? ~
