When the garbage is full, the trash can will automatically seal the bag using thermoplastic sealing technology, and consumers do not need to manually tie the bag when they take it out, and the smell is smoked.

This product will be available on Xiaomi on July 31, the crowdsale price is 199 yuan, and the retail price is 299 yuan. Previously, Tuoniu received seed round financing from Haiquan Fund, angel round financing from Lion Roar and Fund, and tens of millions of yuan in Pre-A round financing from JD.com and Dingxiang Fund.
Is trash cans a good business?
Founder Matthew introduced that the reason for cutting into this category is because he believes that in the indoor environment, throwing garbage is now the worst experience. There is a dishwasher to wash dishes, but it is up to people to take out the trash.
Smart products are meant to solve existing pain points, not simply superimpose functionality where they don’t need to.
They calculated that there are 430 million households in China, with an average of 2 barrels, and the overall demand will be 860 million. Coupled with some public spaces, special places, especially places where garbage is very special such as hospitals, the demand for upgraded garbage cans will be higher.
But the market space is not enough. As mentioned earlier, kick bucket is a once hot product, I searched for “smart trash can” on Tmall and found dozens of models, prices ranging from 60-500, selling well; Take a 400-piece trash can as an example, with more than 800 monthly sales. There are two conclusions from this, one is that consumers can accept trash cans with higher prices and better experiences.
Second, it may be difficult to form a brand in this category.

Tuoniu’s trash can can only match its own garbage box, a set of 10.9 yuan, containing 27 bags, in order to throw it once in two days, consumers have to change the inner box every two months. At present, the trash can is an OEM cooperation, but the matching garbage bags are produced in their own factories, which have been able to support mass production.
This also means that as long as consumers buy Tuoniu’s trash can, they must also buy bags from Tuoniu later, which will continue to intersect with Tuoniu. Then there will be more places that can be developed in the future, the simplest example, the same store, and then push other products, it is easier to reach users.
In the long run, Tuoniu wants to cut into the field of smart home, and will continue to optimize the product and launch an upgraded version of the trash can after 3-4 months. Matthew told 36Kr that the action of people throwing garbage is very high-frequency, and they want to use this feature to do something else.
The upgrades brought by new technologies can form differentiated competition with traditional products, but the key problem is how to move from “explosive” to brand.
